Steps to handle virus and Trojan
Aug 17, 2007 - RISING
1. Collect the virus information

a. Information provided by antivirus software

b. Information provided by Windows task manager

c. Information provided by Windows event viewer

With the above information, a user can search the solution from Internet.

2. No information or detect lots of viruses or Trojans

In safe mode and the system restore is off

a. Run msconfig to view startup items and services items and disable all unnecessary items.

b. Right click My computer -> Management -> Device Manager -> View -> Display non-plug-and-play equipment. Delete non-essential drivers and do not restart.

c. Delete temporary files:

C:\temp
C:\windows\prefetch
C:\document and setting\(user name)\local setting\ Temporary Internet Files
C:\document and setting\(user name)\ Templates
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ PLUGINS

Delete the latest files. If some files cannot be deleted, that means problems.
C:\
C:\WINDOWS
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\

d. Delete Windows Registry entries

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharedTools\MSConfig\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Delete related entries, keys and items. If you know the virus file, just search the Registry and delete all related items.

e. Install antivirus and anti-spyware, update and scan.

Restart the computer to check if the problem still exists.
